Johannes Morijn

Associate Professor of Law and Politics in International Relations, University of Groningen (Netherlands)

 

Short bio

Johannes Morijn is Associate Professor of Law and Politics in International Relations at the University of Groningen. He studied law at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the College of Europe in Bruges, and obtained his PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. He served as an official and diplomat for the Dutch government and the Permanent Representation to the EU (2009–2018). Since 2023, he has been Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). He is currently a Henrik Enderlein Fellow at the Hertie School in Berlin. His research focuses on European human rights law, the rule of law, and the interaction between law and politics in European institutions.

 

Visiting activity

During his research stay at Unitelma Sapienza, Professor Morijn will work on a research project in European Union law aimed at drafting a handbook dedicated to the protection of the Union’s values, as enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. The volume is currently being prepared for publication by the international publisher Cambridge University Press. In addition, Professor Morijn will contribute to the university’s teaching activities by holding in-depth seminars for students of international law courses, with a specific focus on the protection of the rule of law within the legal order of the European Union.
