The UNESCO Chair will take part in the First Conference of the Global Universities Alliance for Cultural Rights, “Human (in)Security”, hosted by the University of Fortaleza on 2 September 2026. Professor Pier Luigi Petrillo will moderate the panel on constitutional frameworks and cultural pluralism, while Sara Di Luca will participate as Executive Manager of the Alliance.

The UNESCO Chair celebrates the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage through educational and awareness-raising initiatives dedicated to schools, Italian schools abroad and international youth communities. These activities promote knowledge of the 2003 UNESCO Convention and encourage dialogue on living heritage, cultural transmission and community participation.

During the International Conference “The Role of Parliaments in the Development of Cultural Rights”, organized by Professor Pier Luigi Petrillo of UnitelmaSapienza University of Rome and Professor Francisco Humberto Cunha Filho of the University of Fortaleza, the Global Universities Alliance for Cultural Rights was formally launched.

At the 20th Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the UNESCO Chairs on ICH will convene a hybrid annual forum of discussion open to external experts and participants. The event inaugurates a recurring platform for scholarly dialogue, critical reflection, and the development of research partnerships across the network of UNESCO Chairs.
