Training
The Chair carries out training activities aimed at training stakeholders, reference communities/communities of reference and public decision-makers, directly involved in the areas of UNESCO Conventions and their implementation, with particular reference to the protection of intangible cultural heritage and the involvement of stakeholders. In the context of training activities, the following are mentioned:
- Planning of an online First Level Master’s Degree, aimed at implementing skills and knowledge in the sectors of tourism, environment, territorial marketing, sustainable and circular economy, carried out within the Project for the protection of “The traditional agricultural practice of growing the sapling vine (“vite ad alberello”) of the Pantelleria community”.
- Activities carried out starting from 2021 on behalf of the National Association of Municipalities and Cities of Oil – Olio Camp -, aimed at increasing public institutions’ awareness of the relationship between food and culture. In this area of activity, the Specialization Course in Enhancement and Management of Local Systems – Città dell’Olio Master Camp (10 February – 3 March 2023) was held, aimed at local administrators and partners of the Association in order to acquire knowledge and additional skills in the field.
- In 2022 the Chair carried out training activities for the National Federation of Club for UNESCO (FICLU) to carry out action to disseminate and support UNESCO values, strategies and programs (with particular reference to education/relationships with schools, valorisation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and other UNESCO recognitions, sustainability and gender equality) and spread greater awareness of one’s cultural heritage.
- Seminar and research activities carried out, starting from 2021, for the National Park of the island of Pantelleria to understand the relationship between culture and biodiversity and for the MOLIGAL association which brings together transhumance shepherds to support the community of shepherds in inventory process of the related cultural heritage.
- Organization – starting from 2021 – of public meetings and seminars with the municipality of Chieti, the municipality of Trevi, the municipality of Termoli, the municipality of Reggio Calabria, FederParchi, the Sardinia Region in order to explain, to each municipality and each citizenship, the meaning of the UNESCO conventions.
- Online training course in “Bioeconomy, Marketing and Territory” aimed at communities that have UNESCO ICH recognition. The course aims to illustrate the relationship between ICH and sustainability and to understand how to enhance territories to develop forms of sustainable economy and forms of tourism marketing that respect cultural contexts.
Teaching
Course “Comparative Law of Cultural Heritage” – UnitelmaSapienza
Every year, the UNESCO Chair on Intangible Cultural Heritage and Comparative Law organizes the Course “Comparative Law of Cultural Heritage”, which takes place within the Department of Law and Digital Society of the Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome. The course is aimed at students of the degree course in Law. The course in Italian is open-source.
Online MOOC – “The legal protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage: a comparative perspective – ICH 20 Years, 20 Dialogues”
2003-2023: twenty years since the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of ICH, how has the protection of cultural heritage changed? A Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) with experts from around the world discussing about this topic in 20DIALOGUES, in English or French. The UNESCO Chair produced a series of 20 virtual dialogues, each lasting approximately 30 minutes, to test the impact of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage in 19 different countries. The dialogues can be followed by anyone, in open source, freely and free of charge.
