International Student Policy & Visa Regulations

Regulatory Compliance

UnitelmaSapienza operates in full compliance with Italy’s annual national guidelines: “The procedure for entry, residency and enrollment of international students and the respective recognition of qualification for higher education courses in Italy.”

Visa Issuance & Consular Jurisdiction

The power to grant or deny a study visa belongs exclusively to the relevant diplomatic-consular mission. Cleared conditional statuses, validated pre-enrollment applications, and official university documentation do not guarantee a consular appointment, nor do they imply automatic visa approval.

Instead, these documents function strictly as supporting evidence for the consulate’s independent assessment. In accordance with Article 4, paragraph 2 of Ministerial Decree 850/2011, consular missions are legally required to verify all standard visa/enrollment criteria and assess the absence of any migration risk.

Academic Degree Evaluation

While visas are handled by the consulate, the academic evaluation of foreign credentials for university admission is quite different. Pursuant to Article 2 of Law 148/2002, this authority falls solely under the jurisdiction of higher education institutions.
